It’s a ridiculous methodology invented by Jack Welch of GE to try and make all processes perfect. It has unfortunately become adopted by a number of global companies as they try and chase the maximum profit.

Six Sigma Blackbelt is an Expert in any Quality Standard with a constant rating of 99.9% yield in manufaturing.

Six Sigma signify 99.9% Manufacturing Yield. To attain this you have to be able to make your production line quality efficient, which means every station on your line must be constantly yielding 99,9% defect free output against raw material inputs of 100%,. A black belt is an expert who studies and analysizes production processes and provide necessary corrective measure to attain 99.9% defect free output. They are an expert in any of the following: ISO, QS, or JIS quality standard.

I beg to disagree with one of the answerer, Six Sigma is Attainable! Check with Celeritek, Nokia, Siemens, Samsung, Sony Ericson, TXC to name a few companies who subcontract their parts’ mass production. This is one of their criteria in order for any assembly subcontracting company to secure a contract from them. They rate your production line, if it fails six sigma, then you do not get a P.O.

this is a rare qualification and pays top dollars.
